“I’m a student of archaeology in Virginia, and we get a lot of heat and sun and weather in general. So I asked whether the materials they used could stand up to Virginia summers (yes!), and how much it might cost to design a cowboy hat with a more steampunky look to it. I also mentioned fire, rivets, and something with an alchemical feel, with a good brim to keep off the sun.
The woman who answered my E-mails, Jennifer, was extremely nice, very communicative and quick to reply. I paid what I thought was a damn fair price for a commissioned piece of one-of-a-kind gear made of sturdy materials which I plan to make good use of. It was about a month before I got an E-mail saying the hat was finished and had been shipped.
It is spectacular. It is, as advertised, made of sturdy material and while it’s heavier than a gardening hat, for all the bells and whistles on it I would indeed call it pretty light material, very easy to wear, good fit. I would highly recommend these folks for anyone who wants a special piece made for costuming or even every-day wear. They’re great to work with and the results are just awesome. ”
